Earnings Outlook: Analysts surveyed by Thomson First Call expect profit of 76 cents a share, compared with 59 cents a share in 2005's final quarter. Revenue Outlook: Analysts expect $7.33 billion, up from $6.44 billion a year earlier. Key Issues: • Holiday spending: The season may not have been what it was cracked up to be, but well-heeled shoppers seemed to do their part, Lehman Brothers analysts say. They see AmEx's billed business rising 14% to $151 billion for the fourth quarter, aided by a 10% rise in card holders. • Bad debt: AmEx's net charge-offs on accounts are expected to rise from the third quarter's 3.5% to a more "normal" level, though nowhere near the 4.6% of a year earlier when personal bankruptcies spiked.
