| Microsoft to Help Food Companies Run Video Ads on Grocery Carts
Microsoft Corp. is bringing digital advertising to the grocery cart. The software maker spent four years working with Plano, Texas-based MediaCart Holdings Inc. on a grocery cart-mounted console that helps shoppers find products in the store, then scan and pay for their items without waiting in the checkout line. Microsoft's acquisition of aQuantive, an online advertising company, last year for $6 billion shored up the company's capacity to serve video ads onto these grocery cart screens. .

As well as watching ospreys, I watched osprey people, like the group of virtual birders I met on Long Island, part of a Web community that followed the daily (and nightly) life of a pair of osprey parents via a camera and microphone secured above their nest. By streaming continuous video on their computers, members of the group could eventually identify the cries of individual birds without looking. It was like Real World with ospreys, and as one member told me, "You get hooked on the plot and can’t stop watching." Ornithology is one of the few fields in which amateurs can still make significant contributions, and this avid group had observed examples of active night behavior and sibling rivalry among osprey chicks that no scientist had noted before. My goal had been to follow an osprey migration through Cuba, but I discovered that it was easier for a bird to enter that country than a human being, especially an American human being.
go! Announces Delivery of 15,000 Ti Leaves to Warrior Fans in New ...
HONOLULU, Dec. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- go!, Hawai'i's Low Fare Airline, today announced on New Year's Day it will deliver 15,000 ti leaves to University of Hawaii Warrior fans at the Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, Louisiana. On January 1, 2008, the University of Hawaii Warrior football team will face the University of Georgia Bulldogs in one of five Bowl Championship Series games. The ti leaves, traditionally believed to bestow good luck on its recipients, will be distributed December 31 and January 1 at the New Orleans Marriott at 555 Canal Street by go! and N a Koa, the UH football support club. The ti leaves were collected by go! from growers on Oahu and in Hilo, Hawai'i.
